Ron Paul: Let's Call This What It Is—An Internet Tax Mandate

Ron Paul: Let's Call This What It Is—An Internet Tax Mandate

The National Internet Tax Mandate, as Campaign for Liberty refers to the bill, would impose costly regulations on our nation’s job creators at a time when the economy is still struggling and millions of Americans are out of work. Businesses would be forced to become tax collectors in compliance with thousands of tax jurisdictions, and any increased operational costs would be passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices.

It is unfortunately no surprise that some of the nation’s most powerful businesses are lobbying hard for this legislation. While these companies can afford to absorb the additional burden imposed by this bill, their smaller competitors cannot.

Taxing Future Generations For Present Luxury Is Unethical Taxation without Representation

Taxing Future Generations For Present Luxury Is Unethical Taxation without Representation

With U.S. national debt at an all-time high, the average American now owes $53,066 to the federal government; more than he makes in an entire year according to the U.S. Census Bureau. However, the real problem with this debt is that it will force future generations to pay for our decisions – something that is clearly unethical.

Can It Happen Here?

Can It Happen Here?

There are more sophisticated ways for governments to take what you have put aside for yourself and use it for whatever the politicians feel like using it for. If they do it slowly but steadily, they can take a big chunk of what you have sacrificed for years to save, before you are even aware, much less alarmed.

That is in fact already happening.

Where the Neocons Went, Rubio Is Following

Where the Neocons Went, Rubio Is Following

The Republican Party has admitted it has a problem. Something has to change to restore the party to a place where it might be able to get one of its own elected president.

Senator Rand Paul, R-KY., has made clear that he agrees. Paul is focusing on the “things we need to do to be competitive on the West Coast, to be competitive in New England and Illinois.”

But Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., apparently thinks the way to get the GOP back into power is to move it backward—back to the Republican Party of Dick Cheney and John Yoo.

Internet tax proposal up for a vote in Senate this week

Internet tax proposal up for a vote in Senate this week

The justification for the proposal reprises arguments that state tax collectors have made for at least a decade: online retailers that don’t always collect taxes are unreasonably depriving state governments of revenue and enjoy an unfair competitive advantage over big box retailers that do collect taxes. On the other hand, there are close to 10,000 jurisdictions that can levy taxes, each with its own rules and ability to conduct audits, and complying with all of those as a small retailer is not a trivial task.

Obamacare May Cost Small Business 'Whiners' 65% of Annual Profits

The owners estimate that the cost of compliance would be $108,000 per year plus $10,000 in overhead to manage the plan. The cost of paying the fine for not offering insurance would be $130,000. So they have a choice between losing 64% or 65% of their annual profits.

Congressman: DHS Refuses to Answer to Congress on 1.6 Billion Bullet Purchase

Militarization of domestic police forces is not permissible under U.S. law; and specifically posse comitatus (mentioned during Rand Paul’s filibuster). DHS has some explaining to do and there will be plenty of people analyzing if its stockpiling of weapons and ammunition passes muster.

The Fraudulent Marketplace Fairness Act

The Fraudulent Marketplace Fairness Act

By giving state governments the power to tax Internet retailers, the Marketplace Fairness Act further undermines our already moribund system of federalism. One of the key components of federalism is competition between the states. The idea is that the better the state, the more attractive it will be to individuals and businesses. Folks have the ability to “vote with their feet” for the system of government and level of freedom that they prefer. Conceivably, if on-line retailers were capturing sales from brick-and-mortar retailers due to sales taxes, the brick-and-mortar retailers would pressure local officials to lower their tax rates to allow them to be more competitive or, if possible, move to states with lower tax rates. We see this happening all the time when consumers go across state lines to buy products that are cheaper in an adjacent state due to lower taxes there. The Internet represents another competitor for state governments in regard to commerce and taxes. Unfortunately, if there is one thing politicians won’t tolerate, it’s competition.

If Alan Greenspan Wants To 'End The Fed', Times Must Be Changing

“We have at this particular stage a fiat money which is essentially money printed by a government and it’s usually a central bank which is authorized to do so. Some mechanism has got to be in place that restricts the amount of money which is produced, either a gold standard or a currency board, because unless you do that all of history suggest that inflation will take hold with very deleterious effects on economic activity… There are numbers of us, myself included, who strongly believe that we did very well in the 1870 to 1914 period with an international gold standard.”

In the same January 2011 interview, Greenspan apparently wondered out loud if we even require a central bank!

Colorado sheriff: New gun laws will not be enforced

Calling the new gun laws passed by the Colorado legislature on Friday “unenforceable,” Weld County Sheriff John Cooke said his office would not enforce them, as reported today on FoxNews.com. The bills, which are expected to be signed soon by the state’s Democratic Governor John Hickenlooper, require background checks on the private transfer and sale of firearms and limit magazine capacity at 15 rounds. Cooke said the proposed new gun laws provide a “false sense of security” and will not be enforced.

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It's Time For A National Conversation

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It's Time For A National Conversation

The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice. It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20 years. In America.
