Mario is Missing! (Super NES)

Mario is Missing! (Super NES): Mario Is Missing is an educational adventure game that was released for the Super NES in 1993. The Super NES had been released in 1991 so this was still pretty early in its life. It was unique in a variety of ways including being a relatively rare game that stars Luigi, being an educational game on a console, and being a Mario/Luigi game that was also released on other platforms.

Computer & Video Games (January 1985) | PeakD

Computer & Video Games (January 1985) | PeakD: Computer & Video Games was perhaps the longest running video games magazine in the world. I believe that it had a nearly 25 year run. In early 1985 it was covering computer games far more than video games. The January 1985 issue includes:

APL*Plus/PC Programming Language

APL*Plus/PC Programming Language: APL is among the oldest computer programming languages. It was first developed in the 1960s. It was first used on mainframe systems such as the IBM 1130, System/370, etc. It is somewhat unique in that it uses a large variety of symbols to represent most functions. It also uses a multidimensional array as its primary data type.

PC World (February 1991)

PC World (February 1991): By the early 1990s, PCs were being rapidly adopted though it would still be a few more years until the Internet came into widespread use. When AOL started providing web access in 1995 is probably a good metric for that. PC World was certainly one of the most popular PC magazines at the time and in 1991, 486 based PCs were around but 386 (and lower) were still much more common. The February 1991 issue of PC World includes:

Vintage Photos - Lot 3 (333-336) | PeakD

Vintage Photos - Lot 3 (333-336): The first photo features the Thunderbird Motel in Miami which opened in 1955, only a few years before this photo would have been taken. Like many of the hotels and motels that were built in Miami during this time, this one is no longer standing.

Byte (September 1984)

Byte (September 1984): This issue of Byte was a special issue emphasizing IBM. The IBM PC had been released a few years earlier and even in 1984, it wasn't a given that the PC and DOS were going to take over the world. CP/M was still around with CP/M 86 having been introduced as well and even "compatible" PCs were not always that compatible yet. I think Byte did one of these IBM special issues (which also covered IBM's larger systems as well) for a few years at least. The September 1984 issue of Byte includes:

Vintage Photos - Lot 3 (329-332) : This photo shows the site of a future housing development in Pompano Beach, Florida connected to the Intracoastal Waterway. I bet prices were a lot cheaper in 1959...

MacAddict (August 1997)

MacAddict (August 1997): I have always thought of MacAddict as a Mac version of boot/Maximum PC. It was a great magazines for Mac fans though in my opinion that changed when they became MacLife. The mid 90s was not a great time for Apple in general. This magazine hit the stands only a couple of months before Steve Jobs returned to Apple and a little over a year before the original iMac was released and really started turning Apple around. The August 1997 issue of MacAddict includes:

Digital Archaeology: Gateway NV57H

Digital Archaeology: Gateway NV57H: The Gateway NV57H is an i3-2310M based laptop. As such, it certainly isn't "vintage" and it would be stretching things quite a bit to even call it "retro". It's really just kind of old. It dates back to circa 2012.

GamePro (February 1997) | PeakD

GamePro (February 1997): Along with Electronic Gaming Monthly, GamePro was one of the most popular gaming magazines for a long time. In 1997 is was primarily covering the Nintendo 64, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn and was also still covering the Super NES, Sega Genesis and Neo Geo. It also had a little PC and arcade coverage. The February 1997 issue includes:

Zzap! 64 (April 1992)

Zzap! 64 (April 1992): I have no doubt this would have been my favorite magazine for a time if it had been available in the U.S. Most of my early game playing experience (after the Atari 2600 of course) was on a Commodore 64. The April 1992 issue includes:

PC Magazine (August 20th, 1985) | PeakD: Next to PC World, PC Magazine was probably the most popular PC magazine of the 1980s and 1990s though it didn't hang on quite as long. The August 20th, 1985 issue includes:

PC World (August 2005)

PC World (August 2005): In 2005, PC World was already in decline. It was covering more computer adjacent things such as digital camcorders and phones by this point. It wasn't terrible...yet, but you could see where it was headed. The August 2005 issue includes:
